Performance Appraisal
Worked on several different appraisal projects within
ARCO and Mobil. Best results came from one-page, no
rating approach recommended and utilized within ARCO.
Literally wrote the book on how to conduct performance
appraisals within ARCO International. Same system has
remained in place within ARCO for the last nine years.
Performance Appraisal
Developed an appraisal system for the City of McKinney,
which tied directly into their core values.
Quality Improvement
Worked closely with the entire staff to develop and
implement a plan for improving the responsiveness and
effectiveness of the Environmental Department. Resulted
in department winning the internal quality award for
the year.
Succession Planning/ Personnel Reviews
Conducted personnel reviews with Sr. Vice Presidents
and their direct reports. Work products from these sessions
included High Potential Lists, Development Plans, and
Watch Lists of Emerging Talent.
Strategic Planning
Took company President of Sigmetrix manager and staff
offsite to discuss mission, vision, values and goals.
Facilitated discussion of a S.W.O.T. analysis to understand
strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and the threats
facing the organization. Developed a written action
plan for moving forward.
Americans with Disabilities
Attended meetings to understand the new law and to
develop organizational approach. Conducted on-site training.
Served as internal expert on all ADA issues.
Sexual Harassment
Conducted due diligence studies for several cases.
Counseled employees and managers on nuances of legislation.
Conducted training for managers and supervisors on the
topic.
Compensation Review
Chaired an expert panel of three consultants who reviewed
the reward systems for the City of McKinney.
Benefits Orientation
Researched, scripted and produced a 20 minute overview
of the Mobil Benefits package. Resulted in more accurate
dissemination of information and less work for the Field
Managers who had responsibility for enrolling new hires
into the Benefits Plans.
Executive Coaching
Worked with company Presidents, Vice Presidents, Technical
Leaders, Chief Information Officers, and Chief Procurement
Officer candidates to ensure that their organizations
functioned as smoothly as possible. Respected for the
ability to work sensitive issues smoothly, for keeping
confidential information confidential, and for ability
to understand the business issues facing these executives.
Development Planning for Procurement Function
Worked with Chief Procurement Officer to develop a
comprehensive development program for the procurement
function within ARCO. Worked with Procurement Managers
throughout ARCO to design and structure a global approach
to training, development, staffing, and placement.
Affirmative Action
Wrote plans and reviewed them with Senior Management
including eight factor analysis, action planning, and
follow up planning required by the EEOC.
Reward Programs
Worked with various managers to establish recognition
strategies appropriate for their organizations. Largest
recognition program was developed for ARCO China. It
paid cash bonuses to all employees responsible for major
project start up on time and under budget.
International
Development of Foreign National Staff Members
Served as a host and mentor to numerous overseas managers
visiting the United States. Started by working with
US manager to set goals and objectives for the visiting
manager's assignment. Assisted with housing, documentation,
drivers licenses, and other personal details associated
with their developmental assignments.
Evacuation of Expatriates
Directly involved in the evacuation of western expatriates
working in Yemen to Dubai during the civil war in Yemen
in 1994. Was also directly involved in the evacuation
of 135 families out of Jakarta, Indonesia in 1998. Spent
two weeks on the ground in Singapore assisting families
with issues regarding personal possessions, household
help, pet, and other details.
Relocation of 85 Families from Java to Sumatra, Indonesia
Responsible for relocating 85 Indonesian families from
the capital city of Jakarta, Indonesia to a remote location
in northern Sumatra. Developed policies, procedures,
and programs to help reduce anxiety and build understanding.
Conducted meetings to learn concerns.
Project Start Ups - Algeria, Yemen, China
Assisted in the planning and development of Human Resource
Strategies for ARCO's efforts in new countries.
Acquisition of Union Texas Petroleum
Served as the point man for ARCO's acquisition of Union
Texas Petrochemicals, a division of Union Texas Petroleum.
Designed and helped in the delivery of communication
sessions for 135 employees. Assisted with benefits transition
and compensation issues.
Temporary Assignment - United Kingdom
Worked in Guildford, England (outside of London) for
two months on recruiting projects, compensation studies,
and generalist activities.
Project Assignment - Dubai
Worked closely with Expatriate Finance Manager to refine
HR strategies and practices. Co-facilitated five day
Leadership Program. Trained local HR Manager.
Project Assignment - Nigeria
Worked with Human Resources Vice President on HR Development
Program, and coached local national HR staff. Also counseled
expatriates on benefits issues.
Temporary Assignment - Indonesia
Responsible for relocation project, Expatriate counseling,
policy development, and HR staff development.
Staff Selection and Development
Staffing Project - Hire 106 Hourly Employees
Utilized JTPA (Job Training Partnership Act) to reduce
staffing expense by $200,000 for Mobil Chemical. Hired
and trained 106 hourly employees within six months.
Staffing Project - Hire 30 Information Systems Pros
Worked with internal management team and external recruiters
to hire 30 I.S. professionals for Mobil Oil in three
months.
Staffing Project - Hire 20 Night Shift Employees
Worked with plant manager and staff to recruit 20 high
quality machinists onto the "night crew" in
Mansfield, TX within four months.
MBA Recruiting
Responsible for coordinating the recruitment efforts
for Harvard University in 1993. Assisted the Finance,
Control and Planning department in setting strategy,
delivering training, and follow up interviewing.
